I See You Now

Elenda, the princess is looking at me now.
I give you her name as she demands it.
She is looking at me directly, accusatory.
I am not sure why.
This story is still about her. It is still about her but the characters around her are evolving and changing and, in many respects, she is evolving too.
And I'm not sure that she is liking it.
But I do.

I like that I have moved away from the 'She-Ra' and 80's 'sword and sorcery with a bit of LOTR thrown in, I've gone through my anguish teenage hatred and now she is just a woman who is trying to do the right thing.
Trying.
We're at the palace now, talking to the half-brother that she has never seen. The disgusting truth is told and there is an uneasy quiet
And in that quiet everyone is either shuffling their feet restlessly or looking around nervously; except her.
She is staring right at me.
There is no expectation there, no question; she is not looking as a player seeking direction. She is not looking at me as a stranger and it feels like she knows me better than I know her.
I think she and I are going to have to sit down and have a conversation, probably over a large glass of red.
Perhaps that is what she is telling me now.
I know the story but do I know the characters. Isnt it the intricitcaise and nuances that make the character whole? Or is it unnecessary fluffing that detracts from the story? Does the reader need to know how many times she brushes her teeth each day, what colour she prefers to wear or why she will never eat fish?
But I do need to get to know my players better.
Who and what we are affects the way we behave, what we say and what we dont
So I have a mission now. The story is weaving its way towards its key scenes.
I need to understand who they are , I need you to uynderstand who they are.
After all do were going to be companions for a while.
